KING CANNONS STOMP INTO SUMMER AT THE TOTE AND KINGS ARMS

kc summer stomp2012/2013

KING CANNONS have two hometowns.

The 6 piece rock n rollers started their life as a band in Auckland before making the jump over the Tasman to base themselves in Melbourne town.   Both cities have made huge contributions to what has shaped KING CANNONS and the band have decided to choose the start of each summer for annual celebrations.

KING CANNONS released their critically acclaimed debut album “The Brightest Light” in mid 2012 in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Holland, Austria and Switzerland.  They have played shows in all of those countries and Australian Big Day Out and support slots with The Living End and Shihad.

KING CANNONS are not a band that you can expect to fit into the traditional 2 year release, tour, release cycles.  Only months since the release of their debut, they are already in the studio tracking new tunes because they are the best songs that they have written.

Both summer stomps see KING CANNONS choosing their favourite new bands as support and they will be playing extra long sets including a catalogue of tunes old and new.

KING CANNONS - “THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT” VIDEO

This is a very special video for the title track of our album. It see's us incorporate footage from some great locations from around the world - Moscow, Los Angeles, Coney Island, and Melbourne. It was filmed and edited by our good friend Matt Weston of Syndicate Films, with a little financial backing from NZ on-air (Fuck yeah!) The performance footage of me was filmed on a beautiful mid-winters morning, at sunrise, on a friends rooftop in Collingwood. It was freezing, I could hardly feel my fingers on the guitar. We are really stoked with how it came together in the end, we hope you enjoy it!

"THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT" NZ TOUR DATES WITH THE TRANSISTORS

5 July 2012

Poised on the edge of Very Big Things, King Cannons make a welcome return to NZ following their sell-out shows in March. Their ferocious energy and lyrical integrity has led to comparisons with The Clash, The Specials, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Weller. But the band are much more than just the sum of their (admittedly very fine) influences.

Fronted by Luke Yeoward, this Melbourne-based rock band play their own version of soul - passionate, from the heart songs that speak to everyone who is fighting for 'a better life'.

Yeoward has cleared his own path towards that 'better life' - he busked the streets of Rotorua as a young teenager to raise money for his first electric guitar and amp. A stint in a timber mill at 16, 'breathing that dust five days a week' ('Too Young') made him realise that music was possibly his only salvation, so he moved to Auckland and joined a punk rock band. However, the Auckland punk scene eventually seemed just as much of a cul-de-sac as his mill job and in 2007 he moved to Northland to work in a timber mill - 'the only places that employ a guy covered in tattoos'.

A chance meeting with Rob Ting (guitar) and Jonno Smith (bass) at a Joe Strummer documentary changed his focus and reinvigorated his passion for music. They formed the nucleus of King Cannons and decided to move to London. However this didn't quite go to plan and they settled on Melbourne for their base, where they lived and worked together honing their sound and becoming more and more of a tightly knit gang than a just a mere 'band'.

Their first single 'Take The Rock' was hailed as 'nothing less than a call to arms - a starting gun signalling the beginning of a new movement', and received widespread radio play both here and in Australia. High profile tours followed with the likes of The Living End and Shihad, and Shihad's own Tom Larkin became the eventual producer of their debut album 'The Brightest Light'. The Brightest Light was released on 22nd June 2012 and debuted at #12 on the Official NZ Top 40 Chart and #2 on the NZ Album Chart.

Infused with the singular passion and intensity of their live shows, the album embraces rock-steady, fiery punk, stadium-ready anthems and there's even a count-in of 'tahi, rua, toru, wha' on the song 'The Cool Change'.

If you aren't convinced by now that King Cannons are the real deal, see for yourself when they play three New Zealand dates in August. Supporting are Rangiora's finest The Transistors, fresh off an American tour with legendary Japanese garage punk band Guitar Wolf.

The Transistors join King Cannons on tour. The band is comprised of drummer/singer Olly Crawford-Ellis, guitarist/singer James Harding and bassist Colin Roxburgh. They play short catchy songs with an emphasis on super high energy that is powered by insanely fast drumming and loud guitars. The band’s sound blends 60s garage, 70s power pop and punk and 80s hardcore and alternative rock.

"THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT" ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR

29 May 2012

KING CANNONS don’t much care for what is supposedly cool.

Since day one, their manifesto has been to be a band for the people.

The type of band that actually means something.

A band with a career that is based on substance over style.

KING CANNONS’ debut album “The Brightest Light” will be unleashed on the world on June 22 with releases confirmed in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.

Having recently returned from the biggest tour of their career, a month-long blast through Europe, KING CANNONS will embark on a series of East Coast dates on June 21. The album launch set will be a white knuckle ride through the band’s assured debut with a couple of old favourites and new surprises thrown in for good measure.

Shihad’s Tom Larkin, one of the best-loved drummers in the world, will join KING CANNONS as a special guest-drummer for the upcoming June dates. Having produced the lion’s share of “The Brightest Light”, Tom is the ultimate addition to the line-up.

Also joining KING CANNONS on the upcoming tour is Major Tom & The Atoms, featuring ex-Little Red baritone crooner ‘Major’ Tom Hartney; an explosive 6-piece rhythm 'n' blues orchestra that perfectly fit the bill as the main support for these national launch shows.
